Welcome to Geometry!

A little information about this course... You should have completed Algebra I prior to enrolling in this course. If you feel you should not be enrolled in geometry, contact your Guidance Counselor right away to discuss your options.

We will be learning to recognize and work with geometric concepts in various contexts. Throughout the year we will explore the ideas of inductive and deductive reasoning, logic, concepts and techniques of Euclidean plane and solid geometry, and develop an understanding of mathematical structure, method, and applications of Euclidean plane and solid geometry.

You are expected to work in each of your online classes a minimum of 60 minutes each day. That time may or may not be spent entirely on the computer but there should be enough activities in your classes to work for an hour a day. A typical day in geometry should include...

- Watching the online lesson slides
- Reading the assigned pages in your Geometry: A Reference Guide book
- Completing the Problem Set Problems (if assigned)
- Taking any Quizzes, Mid-Unit Tests, or Unit Tests if they are on the calendar for that day.

In addition to your online course we will be working with Study Island and GeoGebra. Here are the links to access those two resources.

Study Island
GeoGebra

Your Study Island log-in information should have been sent to you in a separate email. If you have any trouble logging in, please contact me or your Home Room teacher. Study Island assignments will appear throughout the semester in your Class Calendar.  Please be sure to keep up on those assignments.  GeoGebra is a separate piece of software which must be downloaded and installed on your computer. Your online lessons will be using this software to explore some of the geometry concepts we will cover throughout the year. It is super fun to play with so don't be afraid. Again, if you have any trouble with the software make sure you contact me right away.

I am available for "live" help at least 3 times per week via Class Connect and Blackboard Collaborate. You can find the links to my sessions in your Class Connect Calendar on the following days and times...

Tuesday @ 2:00 pm (On Track Together)
Thursday @ 1:00 pm (Weekly Spotlight)
Friday @ 12:00 pm (Student Choice or Office Hours)

If you need additional help, I also have a limited number of individual tutoring session times available to help you. Your first choice should be the sessions I listed above but if those do not work for you, you can contact me using the following methods:

email: cbetz@caliva.org
office phone: 619-797-6066

I return phone calls between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:30 pm. All emails will be responded to within 24 hours.  Being an online student means that you have more access to your teachers than students who attend brick and mortar schools.  Do not be afraid to call or email me.  I love to hear from my students!
